Lethbridge modern quilt guild

The Modern Quilt Guild started in Los Angeles in 2009, and since that time has grown to over 100 “chapters” of the guild world wide.  The Modern quilt guild can be found in Australia, New Zealand, several European Countries, Brazil, the U.S., and of course, several Canadian cities as well, with new ones popping up every day.

What is Modern Quilting?

That's a great question considering it's constantly evolving.  Modern quilting encompasses the traditions of quilting and adds a new twist.  It can be something as simple as using a bright and bold fabric where subdued fabrics were usually the choice.  It uses geometrics, asymmetry, abstracts and alot of negative space.  Modern quilting is about creativity and expressing yourself through your quilt.  It's about color choice, and combining old and new blocks, bold fabrics where subdued fabrics were traditionally used, solid colors, or having only one or two large blocks for the entire quilt.  It seems that it's a personal style, that there are no hard and fast rules.

note ... I cannot take any credit for the fantastic quilt or quilting used as a background on this website ..
